Double-Acting Piston Seals are used in conventional hydraulic cylinders where continual pressure is maintained on both the fore and aft stroke. Double-acting cylinders are the most widely used cylinder types. They operate with pressure on both sides and, therefore, require double-acting seal arrangements.
Piston seals work by creating a positive sealing force against the bore of the cylinder and preventing fluid from flowing across the piston head into the opposing cylinder chamber. In holding the pressurised fluid from escaping to the opposing chamber, pressure is built up on one side of the piston, making the rod extend or retract.
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies stocks an extensive variety of Double-Acting Piston Seals including conventional Polyurethane or Nitrile elements to 5-piece assemblies, PTFE Glide Rings and Cast-Iron Piston Rings.
